Every male body reacts differently to the three E.D. medications approved by the FDA, so one drug may work better for one man than another.

Essentially all three E.D. drugs work in similar ways and while they do not increase libido, they do enable a man with E.D. to achieve an erection when sexually stimulated. There have been no real studies done to show if one of the drugs works better than the others but men taking these drugs should look at their sexual activity desires before deciding which drugs works for them.

For instance, Viagra begins working in a man’s body within 45 to 30 minutes and its effects last for roughly two to four hours. On the other hand Levitra begins working 30 to 60 minutes after taken and lasts four to five hours. Finally Cialis begins working 30 to 60 minutes after it is taken and lasts for 36 hours. No one of them has been proven to work better than the other.

However, keep in mind, the time they take to start working and the duration of their effects vary. That’s something you may want to consider based on your sexual habits. Consider this, does spontaneity matter to you, or do you usually plan sex ahead of time?

FDA findings have shown that Viagra is the most potent of the three drugs and promotes a stronger erection than the other two drugs. Most doctors typically prescribe Viagra for men with serious E.D. problems. At the same time, the effects of Cialis and Levitra may not be as potent as Viagra, but they both last for a longer duration than Viagra. Ultimately men should consult a doctor about which drug may be the best for him considering other lifestyle and health factors.

Yohimbe is an evergreen tree that grows in western Africa in Nigeria, Cameroon, the Congo and Gabon. The bark of the tree contains the active compounds called “alkaloids” and the principal alkaloid is called “yohimbine”.

In the U.S., yohimbine is a prescription drug giving to men to treat E.D. Yohimbine has been found to relax and dilate blood vessels in the penis, resulting in increased blood flow and erection. It may also stimulate areas in the brain involved in sexual desire. Yohimbine appears to work better for men with E.D. that is not caused by a physical problem.

However, yohimbe bark extracts are also sold in health food stores and online as a natural aphrodisiac to increase libido and treat E.D. There is no evidence to show that this herbal supplement works since most clinical studies have looked at the drug yohimbine and not the herbal extract yohimbe.

In yohimbe, there is a relatively small dosing range – if you go below it, the herb doesn’t work and above it, the herb is toxic. Side effects of normal dosages of yohimbe may include dizziness, nausea, insomnia, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, and increased blood pressure. As little as 40mg a day can cause severe side effects, such as dangerous changes in blood pressure, hallucinations, kidney failure and paralysis. Overdose of this natural supplement can be fatal.

Because yohimbe blocks the enzyme monoamine oxidase, people taking yohimbe must avoid all tyramine-containing foods (e.g., liver, cheeses, red wine) and over-the-counter products that contain the ingredient phenylpropanolamine, such as nasal decongestants. People with kidney or liver disease, stomach ulcers, heart disease, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, post-traumatic stress disorder, and panic disorder should not take yohimbe.

Doctors recommend pregnant or nursing women, children, or elderly people not to take yohimbe. Also yohimbe should not be combined with antidepressant drugs unless under the supervision of a physician.

Popular nutritional supplements that can treat Erectile Dysfunction include bioflavonoids, zinc, vitamin C, vitamin E, and flax seed meal.

Chocolate contains high levels of “phenylalanine”, an amino acid that increases production of endorphins in the brain and with a high level of endorphins in the body. Naturally, the “feel good” reaction to eating chocolate can help reduce psychologically induced E.D. in men.

Other foods with high phenylalanine content are almonds, apples, peanuts, pineapple, tomatoes, chicken, beef, and spinach.

New research also suggests that phosphorus can increase sex drive and responsiveness. Good sources of phosphorus include seafood; especially crab meat, lobster, truffles, eggs, wheat germ, wheat bran, legumes, and seeds.

Another mineral essential to sexual function is zinc and a deficiency of zinc is associated with numerous sexual problems, including sperm abnormalities and prostate disease. Zinc is necessary for the production of testosterone, and also helps to maintain vaginal lubrication. Stress, caffeine, smoking, and alcohol consumption increase the need for zinc. Zinc-rich foods include nuts, eggs, beef, legumes, chicken, whole grains, and seafood — especially oysters.

Pumpkin seeds also contain zinc, which is important in testosterone production for men. Pumpkin seeds are additionally rich in the essential fatty acid “omega 3″, which acts as a precursor of “prostaglandins”, a hormone-like substance that play a key role in sexual health.

Bananas help to boost male libido largely due to the presence of the enzyme called “bromelain”. Bananas are also a good source of B vitamins like riboflavin as well as potassium, which increase the body’s total energy levels and are vital for sex-hormone production.

Avocados help to increase both male and female libido since they contain very high levels of folic acid. It is believed that folic acid assists in metabolizing proteins, thus providing you more energy. Figs are very high in amino acids and are critical to increasing you libido as well as boosting your sexual stamina.

Lastly, while eating garlic may give off an unpleasant odor, garlic contains high levels of “allicin”- a compound that can improve blood flow to the sexual organs. Allicin is only produced when garlic has been chopped as it is produced through an enzyme reaction, so eat chopped garlic or even better, try odorless garlic extract.

Women should understand and explain that although they are entering the second phase of their life, it is important, not only for one to continue to have a healthy sex life, it’s essential for a happy relationship.

This doesn’t mean you expect a roll in the hay every night. In fact, some people believe absence makes the heart grow fonder. However, your partner needs to understand that going without sex altogether is not an option you’ll accept.

Men tend to focus on penetrative intercourse as the most important aspect of sexual enjoyment. You must convince him that this is absolutely not true. Give him a quick anatomy course and show him what is pleasurable to you. No doubt, a gentle warm touch can be a spark to ignite a much hotter sexual encounter.

If you have normal testosterone levels in your body, injections of the hormone will not help you get a strong erection nor give you sexual longevity. In reality, any man with normal testosterone levels who injects himself with testosterone may be causing detrimental effects, as it will cause dramatic shrinkage of the testicles.

According to various scientific studies over the years, average male potency is the ability to continue intercourse for five to ten minutes. During that time, a potent man will deliver anywhere from 50 to 100 pelvic thrusts. Experts believe that normal male sexual activity is when a man has sex more than once a week and less than twice a day. Nevertheless, it should be noted that sex is affected by many outside factors and as a result a normal pattern is difficult to identify.

The duration of a normal erection will be related to stimulation. If you expect to have sex with your partner for 10 minutes or 30 minutes, or longer, it is quite normal to be able to maintain the erection for that long.

For healthy men capable of having firm erections it is normal to lose one’s erection after ejaculation, whereby the penis requires a recovery period also known as the “refractory period” before another erection is possible. Being unable to maintain or get an erection during the “refractory period” is also completely normal and not a sign of Erectile Dysfunction.
