There are four phases before any man or woman achieves an orgasm:
AROUSAL
This stage is when a person becomes sexually excited or stimulated both mentally and physically. Signs can include an increased heart rate, flushing of the skin, increased sensitivity in the genital area, erection of the penis, swelling of the clitoris, and lubrication of the vagina.
PLATEAU
This stage involves increased sexual and muscle tension that doesn’t change.
ORGASM
In essence, during this stage sexual pleasure reaches its highest point and then sexual tension is released.
RECOVERY
This last stage is where the body returns to a state of normality. Typically, most men and women feel a sense of warmth, pleasure and relaxation during this stage.

It should be noted that the time after a man ejaculates (achieves orgasm) and the time he is able to achieve another orgasm varies from man to man.

Typically, younger men are able to have an erection must faster and can ejaculate more times than older men. On the other hand, women are able to have orgasms in increased numbers and remain in the plateau phase for a longer period of time than men.

Two of the most popular and effective techniques include the “stop/start” technique and the “squeeze” technique.

In the stop/start method, the man’s partner stimulates his penis to the point that when the man is about to ejaculate, the partner stops everything that they are doing. Shortly thereafter, when the man’s urge to ejaculate has passed, his partner starts to stimulate him again. This stop and start exercise is repeated over and over until that period of stimulation without ejaculation lasts for more minutes and ultimately gives the man a sense of control.

Practicing with a lubricant on the tip and shaft of the penis helps make this exercise less painful.

For the squeeze technique, the man’s partner places their fingers on his penis so that her thumb is on one side of the man’s erect penis and the index and middle fingers are on the other side. The partner’s index finger should be just above the ridge and the middle finger should be just below this ridge. Then, the man’s partner stimulates the man and when he feels like he is about to ejaculate he tells his partner to squeeze his penis firmly between the partner’s thumb and the other two fingers until the urge passes.

The following are some effective steps to take in order to properly practice the Start/Stop techniques. Most sex therapists recommend practicing this technique or the squeeze technique at least once a day to help control their Premature Ejaculation:

Practice Stroking

Masturbation should start with a man slowly stroking his penis up and down as this motion is similar to penetration of the vagina during sex. During the stroking, men should not focus on ejaculation, but concentrate on the sensations in the penis and pelvis area.

Take Note of Sensations

During masturbation, men should notice the sensations in their body before ejaculation, especially any tickling sensations. If you know what the feeling is like before you ejaculate, you can stop yourself or slow yourself when you first sense these feelings.

Practice Starting and Stopping Masturbation

After you have an idea of how the tickling sensation feels, begin practicing masturbation and then stopping when you begin to feel this sensation.

Masturbate until you have an erection and feel aroused. Then stop the stimulation for at least 15 seconds and concentrate on the feelings of decreasing excitement in your body. Continue to start and stop masturbating periodically until you feel you are getting as close to the “tickling” stage as possible.

When you feel you’re getting close, stop until you feel you are back in control. Take note of how your penis and pelvic area feel and how that changes when you stop masturbating. When you practice, try not to fantasize about anything, do not use lubricants or sex toys because they can prevent you from controlling your ejaculations properly.

Have No Fear of Losing an Erection

Men often lose their erection when they stop masturbating and this should not be a cause for worry. Just start stimulating yourself again and fantasize about something in order to arouse yourself. After you have obtained an erection, try to bring yourself to feeling that tickling point for at least three times.

Practice, Practice, Practice!

Doing these exercises may not be easy at first and you might lose your erection or get bored along the way. Nevertheless, you must try to practice them at least once a day in order to prolong the time between stimulation and ejaculation.

Include your Partner in Practicing

Once you gain comfort with these exercises and have more control of your ejaculations, include your partner into the exercises when you practice. Have your partner slowly masturbate you and then intermediately stop when you come close to ejaculating, this will help you control your ejaculations with your partner present.

The Kegel exercise is an exercise that enables men to tighten their pubococcygeal or PC muscles, located in their pelvis. While both men and women have the PC muscle, men who strengthen the muscle through exercises can significantly improve their Premature Ejaculation (P.E.) issues. Stronger PC muscles allow for an increase in blood flow and circulation in the pelvis as well as for stronger sensations during arousal, helpful in achieving more powerful orgasms in men.

Men can locate this PC muscle when urinating by squeezing the muscles in the pelvis that help you cut off the flow of urine – those muscles are your PC muscles. The Kegel exercise involves men who practice squeezing their PC muscles regularly during urination to shut off their urine or even when you do not have to urinate by squeezing the muscle anywhere without anyone noticing you are practicing them.

The following are just a few steps one can take to master the Kegel exercise:

LOCATE THE PC MUSCLE
Be sure to locate your PC muscle as we have indicated before beginning the exercises because it is possible to accidentally squeeze the wrong muscle, making it difficult to do a proper Kegel exercise.

START SLOW AND SQUEEZE
The PC muscles can be exercised at any time and anywhere. Once you have located your PC muscles, squeeze them as hard as you can, holding the squeeze for between three and five seconds.

Then release the squeeze, rest for about five seconds and repeat the process. During the resting phase, become aware of the sensation of your PC muscles being tightened and relaxed.

When first starting out the Kegel exercises, notice how many times it takes before you your PC muscles become tired. Over time you will notice an improvement in strength and stamina of the PC muscles.

REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT
Sex therapists recommend that Kegel exercises, like other muscle exercises, should be done in sets of repetitions. These repetitions will include squeezing the muscle, holding it, and then releasing it. There are no special numbers of sets that researchers have found to be most effective, but typically four or five sets are suggested. It should be noted that the PC muscles, like other muscles, can be overworked, so take it slow at first. Be careful not to overdo it the first few days.

BUILD UP ENDURANCE OVER TIME
To effectively improve the PC muscles with the Kegel exercises, gradually build up endurance by increasing the number of repetitions from five to ten. Also men can improve the endurance by squeezing the PC muscle and holding it for ten seconds or more instead of four. Over time, the exercises should be done three or four times a day in order to improve one’s endurance.

INCORPORATE THE EXERCISES INTO SEX AND MASTURBATION
Experts recommend that once men master the Kegel exercises on their own, they should incorporate them into masturbation and sex with a partner. Over time, strengthening the PC muscles will help prevent the “point of no return” ejaculation reflex, thereby reducing chances of P.E.

As they say “practice makes perfect” and in the case of penis health, having sex is a good way to exercise your penis. Similarly to sports or playing an instrument the more you use your penis, the better you will be at controlling it. Having sex is also good for overall health throughout your body. Of course just as in sports there are exercises that you can do to strengthen your penis during the off season so to speak.

The most common is known as the “Kegel exercise”. This exercises consist of the regular contracting and non-contracting of the pubococcygeal muscles (PC muscles) also sometimes called the “Kegel muscles”). PC muscles originate from your pubic bone, go under your genitals and attach to your tailbone.

To isolate the PC muscles or the PC muscles clench the muscles around your anal sphincter, the same muscles that you would use to stop the flow of urine mid-stream. Practice contracting these muscles by imagining that you are pulling a marble up your rectum and holding it for a few seconds at a time (remember, just imagine, no marble is actually required).

If you are doing the Kegel exercises properly you should feel your pelvic floor pulling upwards into the body. Over time men should notice an improvement in the rigidity of erections and intensity of ejaculations. Kegel exercises are also useful for guys who experience premature ejaculation.

Keep in mind, the penis it self is not a muscle, however increased strengthen of the PC muscles will improve blood supply to the penis resulting in firmer erections and will also help a man control ejaculation.

Like any other muscle in your body, use it or lose it.

For years, Erectile Dysfunction was considered an emotional or mental problem. In reality, chronic erection problems are usually rooted in a physical cause, not an emotional or mental problem.

Concerns about performance may arise in some men due to their cultural or religious taboos. Another psychological cause may be resulting from certain masturbation patterns. For example, a man who is used to masturbating with a very fast motion may find it difficult to climax with the slower process of intercourse.

Temporary dysfunction might be related to a psychological issue – such as an inability to concentrate or intense emotional trauma – but this is far from the norm. A medical history and thorough physical or neurological exam can determine if a man’s ED is due to an underlying physical medical condition, psychological distress or a side effect of medication.

Believe it or not, the first and most popular desensitizing treatment is through the simple use of a condom. Because they apply a barrier between the penis and the vaginal opening, condoms may reduce sensitivity enough in a man to allow him to better control his ejaculation over time. Some men use multiple condoms which reduce sensitivity even more, often to the point where the sensation during sex is less than satisfactory to them. However, this does give them a longer time period before ejaculation and ultimately can provide more satisfaction for their partner.

Some men use desensitization ointments like lidocaine or prilocaine creams that they apply to the undersurface of the head of the penis roughly thirty minutes before sex. These types of ointments are best applied underneath a condom and then washed off five to ten minutes before sex – otherwise they will also cause a numbing effect for the man’s partner.

Finally, some men masturbate some hours before sex as a way to improve their ejaculatory control. Often times, men who ejaculate after masturbation and before sex have much better ejaculatory control during sex because they may be able to control themselves better after the first ejaculation. Masturbation through the aforementioned “retraining” techniques can help reduce P.E. significantly.

There is no medical evidence available to suggest that any man has the ability to control their ejaculation at birth. Ejaculation, like urination, is an automatic response of the body to stimulation and the only way to control it is by learning and practicing to control it. Sex therapists agree that men who have had regular experience with masturbation and regular sexual encounters with partners are often able to learn how to control their ejaculations more than men who have not had these types of experiences.
